EasyJet invests 1.6 billion dirhams in its first non‑European base in Marrakech

The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) and EasyJet have just signed a five-year agreement to sustainably enhance the Kingdom's international connectivity.

Initiated and led by the ONMT, the alliance includes the opening of EasyJet’s first base outside Europe in Marrakech, the allocation of three Airbus aircraft, a 17% increase in capacity to Morocco from 2026, and an ambitious target of 12 million passengers by 2030. According to the ONMT, the agreement is set to accelerate the Kingdom's rise on the global tourism stage.

At the core of this alliance, EasyJet is inaugurating its first operational base outside Europe at Marrakech airport.

Three Airbus aircraft will be based there from the outset, backed by a total investment of more than €150 million. According to the same source, this marks EasyJet's first commitment of this kind in a new country in many years.

The increase in capacity will lead to a 17% rise in flights to Morocco from 2026, alongside the expansion of EasyJet Holidays offerings.

The opening of the Marrakech base will generate nearly 100 direct jobs and several thousand indirect jobs in aviation, tourism, and services, the ONMT noted, adding that each aircraft based there represents around €30 million in value added for the local economy.
